From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ray Wilson is a senior British karate instructor based in Leeds.

Wilson was a keen amateur footballer in his early years, but changed his sporting focus to karate after being introduced to the sport by a friend in the late 1960's. He gained his first black belt under the Japanese master Kanazawa. He went on to become one of the most senior karateka in the UK, currently holding the 7th Dan.

[edit] Awards

Wilson, alongside co-instructor Gill Stephenson, has received many awards for the quality of his instruction, reflected in the success of his students in national competition, and for his promotion of good coaching practises. In 1991 he received 3 major awards: the British Institute of Sports Coaches awarded him "National Coach of the Year"; the UK Sports Council awarded him "Coach of the Year" for Yorkshire & Humberside; and Leeds City Sports Council bestowed the "Service to Sport" award for outstanding service to sport in the city.
