Ray Carver (born June 13, 1973 in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American darts player who competes in the Professional Darts Corporation and is generally regarded as one of the top American darts players. He is nicknamed Razor and currently lives in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Carver made his World Championship debut in the 2003 PDC World Darts Championship, losing 4-0 to Wayne Mardle in the qualifying round. His second World Championship appearance in the 2006 World Championship saw him defeating number three seed Ronnie Baxter in the first round. He lost in the second round to Andy Smith. In the 2008 PDC World Darts Championship, Carver suffered a first round exit to Wayne Mardle. He has also qualified for the Las Vegas Desert Classic in 2005, 2006 and 2007, reaching to quarter-finals in 2005 before losing to Wes Newton. Carver was one of the American qualifiers for the inaugural World Series of Darts but lost easily in the first round to Peter Manley.
Carver is well-known within the dart community for his poor attitude and sportmanship. When playing the game of Cricket against less skilled shooters, for example, he frequently will deliberately prolong the match by pointing excessively rather than ending the match, presumably in an attempt to showboat and impress onlookers. In actuality, this only serves to disgust those watching, and this combined with his generally poor attitude has made Carver one of the most despised shooters within the local darting community. This is highlighted by the fact that even though he has been playing for some time, and fares reasonably well at the tournament level, he has never been upheld as a shooter to be looked up to in the community, such as during the annual "White Mountains Tournament" held in Gorham, NH, where one to two shooters are chosen every year as being representative of the congeniality within the community. Carver's name has never been one of the names chosen.
