In Anime and Manga, a Raw is referred as an untranslated or unsubbed TV episode or manga chapter. For Manga, people usually scan pages in directly, and sometimes convert colored pages (like in Shojo Beat) into gray scale. For anime, raws are collected through either recording done via disc or done through PC-Tv Tuners. Once captured, the raw is usually compressed into a .avi file, then is distributed through out the internet, mostly through P2P sharing programs such as BitTorrent.
