[edit] SVG??

Is it possible to upload SVG files, and have wiki automatically convert it on the fly to png? If so how do I do this, when I tried to upload an SVG it said it was not a recommended format, I did not see a way to force it to go. I noticed in the uploaded files area you have a couple that are .svg.png. --Green-Dragon 06:37, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I myself didn't find the images, I believe that someone scanned most of them in. I merely included the infoboxes and put all the info I knew in them. Sorry I can't be more help than that. Let me know if I can help you out though. I noticed some tagging you were doing at new pages patrol. We need help so thanks! Just wanted to drop you a message about one issue. When you tag an article for speedy deletion, it should fall into a specific speedy deletion criteria, which are listed at WP:CSD. There are a pretty short list of speedy deletion tags that are used often which tell you in their text the criteria they are used under (you can memorize them pretty quickly because their names tell you the criteria).

Here's a list of pretty much all of them: {{db-bio}}, {{db-group}}, {{db-web}}, {{db-nonsense}}, {{db-empty}}, {{db-nocontext}}, {{db-band}}, {{db-club}}, {{db-attack}}, {{db-repost}}, {{db-vandal}}, {{db-copyvio|url=url of source}}, {{db-redirtypo}}, {{db-redirnone}}, {{db-blanked}} and {{db-talk}}. The article, you recently tagged was speedily deletable under {{db-empty}} but not for notability, which is not a criteria for speedy deletion. If an article doesn't fit under any speedy deletion tag but you think it still should be deleted, the typical thing to do is to use a {{prod}} tag. As infuriating as it is sometimes, anyone is allowed to remove a prod tag at any time, for any or even no reason, and it can't be re-added if anyone does so. However, the article can be sent to articles for deletion if that happens, where a consensus will determine whether the article should be deleted. This one's on AfD right now, and as clear of a hoax as it is, it'll get a very clear "delete". (The hoax tag is a different story, it's not alright to remove maintenance tags unless the concerns are addressed, I warned the author about that.) Dear roads editor,

You may have noticed some changes at WP:USRD lately. Some of them, like the cleanup templates and the stub templates, have been astounding and great. Unfortunately, others have been disturbing.

This has become evidenced by the departure of a few prominent editors at USRD, a few RFC's, and much fighting among USRD editors.

After the second RFC, many of us found the opportunity to take a step away from Wikipedia for a while--as a self-imposed wikibreak, or possibly on vacation.

The result of such introspection was that many of us were placing ourselves in a "walled garden" and on a self-imposed pedestal of authority over the roads department. Also, we were being hostile to a few users who were not agreeing with us.

In fact, IRC has been the main incarnation of this "walled garden." Decisions have been made there to conduct grudges and prejudices against a few valued USRD users with poor justification.

For this, we have come to apologize. We have come to ask your forgiveness.

In addition to this, we hope to work as one USRD team from now on and to encourage cooperation instead of the promotion of interests.

All users are welcome to collaborate on IRC, the newsletter, or anywhere else at USRD.

In the future, please feel free to approach us about any issues you may have.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for your note. I will be frank and say that as an administrator who does a lot of new page assessment, I frequently assess pages (and redirects) at a very rapid rate that have been tagged by editors. I do give them my consideration, don't get me wrong, but I don't often think about the deeper orthographic possibilities for various misspellings of a redirect -- if someone felt it was sufficiently incorrect to tag as a bad spelling, I usually take their word for it, and if I don't agree, I change it myself. I believe that that is what happened here; I didn't give it much thought and just agreed with whoever tagged it. If you feel sufficiently strongly that there should be such a redirect, hey, I'm fine with that too, because I'm sure you know more about Marilyn Manson than I do and what's necessary and useful. Go for it, and I hope it makes it past all the other editors, and please accept my apologies for your extra trouble. (If you want me to create it, let me know.)

I did also want to say that I mildly disagree with your last point about the amount of bytes (or bandwidth, which is how I think of it) it takes for a redirect. Yes, Wikipedia is not a paper encyclopedia, but in my company I have to sign monthly cheques to pay for my corporate bandwidth, and at home also, and I can testify it costs money -- it costs me about C$300 a month, all things considered, and I can't imagine what it costs Wikipedia. I also consult for a small non-profit that strains to find its C$60 monthly to pay for bandwidth. I certainly agree that a single redirect page is not all that much of a strain on the system -- infinitesimal and not really worth considering. But the accretion of thousands of such pages starts to add up, and since I, like you, lived through the recent fundraising drive and its associated banner ads, I do try to watch the pennies so that the pounds/dollars/Euros will take care of themselves and we won't have to look at those darn banners so often. I have absolutely no disagreement with your proposed redirect; if you think it's needed, I'll back you on it. I just wanted to note that saving a little money for a non-profit isn't a terrible idea either.
