[edit] Ravenswood: The unacknowledged community

The Ravenswood neighborhood literally surrounds the Lincoln Square neighborhood, for which its community is actually named. Not only does this unacknowledged community make up most of the land mass comprising the Lincoln Square community, it also contains nearly a quarter of the neighboring Uptown community.

Ravenswood, which has its own Chamber of Commerce [1], and lends its name to three surrounding neighborhoods (Ravenswood Manor, Ravenswood Gardens and South East Ravenswood) was formed by a land company of the same name. Some of its partners are now well known street names like Kedzie, Wilson and Leland. The Chicago Transit Authority's Brown Line was originally named the Ravenswood Elevated (The "L") and until the 1940s, there was even a Ravenswood station at Wilson Avenue, which probably accounts for the small number of businesses in the middle of a residential area and also what was a Ravenswood hospital that looked more like an apartment building with a neon sign.

I think this heading should be aliased to Lincoln Square, Chicago. --Mr. A. 23:08, 23 February 2007 (UTC) I added the merge tag, since it appears that Lincoln Square, Chicago has a Ravenswood section that appears better written. Busjack 18:38, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
