Ravenswood, Queensland, Australia is a small mining town located approximately 45 km south of Mingela, and about 1 hours drive from Charters Towers. Two gold mines are (2008) in operation, a large opencut behind the town and an underground one at nearby Mt Wright. Tourism is also an important industry. The "town" now compares to a village, with a combined general store and post office, a primary school and two pubs (Railway & Imperial which offer both excellent food and accommodation. Fuel can be obtained from both Top Camp near the the entrance to the town and the post office. Top Camp also offers meals and bungalow style accommodation. The showgrounds offers tent and caravan spaces with very good toilet/shower and barbecue facilities. The council pool opens in the afternoons and there are tennis courts for hire. This is in sharp contrast to the late nineteenth century, when the town was a large and thriving community. Several hitoric buildings remain and it is well worth the trip.
