Ravenscraig New Town

Ravenscraig is a planned New community in North Lanarkshire, just outside Motherwell. It will be built on the site of the former Ravenscraig steelworks which closed down in the 1990s. The town will be home to approximately 10,000 people. The town will have a 1million + sq feet Town Centre which caused controversy as it would mean a significant part of the Glasgow and Clyde Valley development plan would be built that wasn't in the original plan, this sparked outrage at the Council trying to get Ravenscraig officially as a Town Centre rather than a Shopping Centre. The decision was finally taken by the House of Lords to allow Ravenscraig to be built and to have it as a Town centre.
