[edit] White Media

Thank you for your contributions, but please read the Wikipedia style guide to see how to properly format articles. You're using a lot of bolding and italicizing when it is not necessary. --tomf688{talk} 02:32, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

I will see what I can do to help, but you must also make an effort to use the styles correctly or you might be creating more work. --tomf688{talk} 03:08, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Just so you know, I didn't add the NPOV dispute tag, so you might want to check the edit history to see who did that and address them with any problems they might have with neutrality. --tomf688{talk} 04:46, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Wikifying is basically just standardizing the format of an article to match that of others. See the style guide link above for more information on the subject. To put your article in the Society category, simply add [[Category:Society]] at the bottom of the page, but see if it can go into a more specific subcategory inside the Society category first. --tomf688{talk} 18:13, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Media and Ethnicity

(I've added this here as well, because I'm not sure where you'd see it.)

Media and Ethnicity

Ratherford, I hate to tell you this, but you can't copy the text of outside articles into Wikipedia. That's copyright violation, and we're very careful about avoiding that sort of thing. I know you meant well, but anything like that gets reverted. Sorry. You can put a link to the article from the Boulder News, but you can't put the article itself.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but at least you're more pleasant to deal with than twelve-year-old idiots who insist on creating four hundred articles a day about how their math teacher is an ugly fat moron. DS 15:27, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks to DS and CelestianPower . I got your message. Feel free to edit the article whenever necessary. And continue to let me know if I may have violated any licenses and such. Best regards.

[edit] Thanks

for the nod on the barnstar. I appreciate it.

[edit] Footnotes

Moving a footnote to External links and reformatting it orphans the footnote ref in the article. Please do not do this again.

KillerChihuahua 15:08, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

You shouldn't have put the footnotes above the external links section. It confuses unexperienced readers (and there are a lot) in this world. Keep in mind that the article is very large, hence, referring to an isolated footnote for a specific point within the article would be ridiculous. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack so to speak. Although I agree that by including the footnote in the external links would also be like looking for a needle in a haystack, I disagree with your decision to put the footnote in an isolated area. What I think you could do however, is to provide the footnote within the specific section of the article that refers to the footnote itself. This way, any reader could easily relate to it when reading a particular section. Ratherford Skills 00:27, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

The article is indeed large, and needs to get much smaller. It seems we disagree on how to handle foot notes. However, I say again: Do not orphan the footnotes of another editor, and plase do not move my footnotes to External links or anywhere else without discussing first on the talk page. I am sorry to hear you find WP style "ridiculous". Footnotes go at the end of the page, not in the middle. KillerChihuahua 01:10, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Read my new comments at Talk:Ethnic_stereotypes_in_American_media and at your talk page. You may want to reconsider your response above. I do not find WP style "ridiculous" as you may seem to believe. I am a "newbie" as you may use such a term, and am still learning the basics of WP. I would appreciate that you would show more patience with my inexperience. WP skills take time to learn. Arrogance on the other hand is something that I do not practice.

Ratherford Skills

Have done so. I was quoting you, hence the quotes. It was not I who chose that word. I am very patient, but not infinitely. You asked for more experienced help, and seemed to be asking to learn the ropes on WP. I am trying to help you. When I say "don't do this" 99% of the time it is because it is WP guidelines. Please feel free to ask me where the guideline is, or the policy, or any other questions - but if I say "don't do this" flat out like that, it isn't my opinion. It is WP guidelines. Re-read the dialogue above, in this discussion.
Me - Please do not, with reason
You - You shouldn't do that
Do you see where there is a problem here? I tell you WP style, guidelines, "rules" - and you argue. KillerChihuahua 01:44, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Alright, I'll listen. Ratherford Skills

[edit] thanks!

For the notice on my talk page. To reward someone on WP, it is customary to give a Barnstar. If that is what you intended, follow the link to see how. KillerChihuahua 02:32, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Just saw that you did do that, but on my user page. It is customary to place them on the talk not the user page. No one edits anyone's user page but the user (with certain exceptions, done by Admins.) KillerChihuahua 02:35, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
Moved to my talk page... 4 is too darn many, thanks much anyway. I picked "diligence" but if you think "editor" is more appropriate I will switch. KillerChihuahua 02:41, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

I would say that the Barnstar of Diligence is a great choice and I know you deserve it. Anyways, see you around bud. Good luck with your edits and best regards. Ratherford Skills

Thanks again - see you on the Talk page of the Ethnic stereotypes in American media article. KillerChihuahua 02:51, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar

Many thanks for giving me my first barnstar. I just hope you feel the same way when I've finished with the article! TheMadBaron 04:37, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

The Baron deserves a Barnstar, and he's amazing on cleanup. Good call, Ratherford.
FYI I am going to try to come back to help out after the first of the year, I'm very buried right now IRL and other WP articles. KillerChihuahua 12:36, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Happy New Year!

Hoping that for you it is the best year yet! KillerChihuahua?!? 14:31, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey thanks! I wish you a Happy New Year as well. Keep safe and best wishes to you and your family and friends. Ratherford Skills

[edit] Tim Osman USG Field Report Gunderson

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Tim Osman USG Field Report Gunderson, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 12:50, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
