[edit] Wikipedia is...
Wikipedia, and many other Wiki sites are actually very useful and are also sometimes the closest thing there is to "freedom" on the internet. Think about it, here is a site that you can modify with simple tags and your own ideas.
This is a place where information is shared. However, nothing should ever stay the same forever. In that regard, I suggest that people stop changing it back when someone changes it. Let it evolve from there. See where it goes.
This is more a discussion than a governance.

[edit] Anonymous people blanking the page
Several anonymous "contributors" have been repeatedly blanking the page recently. They replace the entire content with something like "Rat Patrol is a bike club that doesn't need a wikipedia summary" or "The Rat Patrol is a bicycle club which does not need a Wikipedia vanity entry."
Whether or not the subject of a page feels they "need" an entry is irrelevant. WP is an encyclopedia, serving to document noteworthy things. People and organizations don't get to decide if they are noteworthy; that's for others to decide. I believe that the Rat Patrol is noteworthy, as a (loosely affiliated) organization, a movement, and a phenomenon.
As to the "vanity page" assertion: The fact that some members of the club do not want a page here seems to be the best argument that this is NOT a vanity page. If someone feels the entry is wrong, they can fix it, or add a Criticisms section, or an explanation about any controversy about the nature of the club. The entire Rat Patrol Manifesto doesn't need to be reproduced here, but I think any error should be on the side of more information, not less. As the NPOV Tutorial, Space and Balance section notes, "The remedy is to add to the article—not to subtract from it."
Full disclosure: I am a member of the Rat Patrol myself. However, I have not contributed except to revert this blanking. Signed, Korny Rat. Dan Korn 06:59, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] I hope Rats didn't write this article
I sure hope that this is genuinely journalistic and not some Rat writing this entry. Clearly many Rats are offended to appear on this fluff-site. If I had my druthers noone who used Wikipedia would ever find out about the Rat Patrol, nonetheless, if non-rats notice and enter stuff we can't help that.
I have removed some private information from the article.

[edit] Damn bike crap
I think we'd rather read about the TV show Rat Patrol.
Definitely notable IMHO. I've heard of them and they were recently brought up on a Lonely Planet TV show (Blue List) about Australia. Incidentally, the band They Might Be Giants also wrote a song about this group. 203.129.58.118 16:06, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
