Ratnajeevan Hoole
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Prof. Ratnajeevan Hoole is a professor of Electrical Engineering and the Vice Chancellor of University of Jaffna. Previously he was posted at the Peradeniya University. He has spent many years in USA.
President Mahinda Rajapakse appointed Prof. Hoole as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna in March 2006. The rebel group LTTE opposed the appointment and, along with certain allies, used threats and intimidation[1][2] against him and his family to discourage Prof. Hoole from accepting his post as V.C. Currently he is on special leave due to these threats to his life[3] by local para military groups[4] allied with the LTTE. Earlier to his appointment as VC of The University of Jaffna, Prof. Hoole was appointed to the University Grants Commission by the then president Chandrika Kumaratunga[5].
Professor Hoole is, despite frequent mistake, not actually the brother of internationally known Human Rights activist Rajan Hoole.[6] Prof. Hoole is a Protestant Christian.
