Rathangan is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Rathangan, County Kildare, Ireland, winners of the Kildare county senior football championships in 1925. Karl O’Dwyer was an All Stars Awards winner in 1998.

RIC records from 1890 show that Rathangan Wolfe Tones had 70 members with officers listed as George Cullen, RH Kelly and Edward Henry while the Coolelan and Dromoreal James Leahys had 50 members, with James Cassidy, Denis Dunne, Thomas Byrne and John Colmey listed as officers. Kilmoney sons of St Patrick also had a club affiliated in 1890 with officers Joseph Foynes and Christy Holohan listed as attending the 1889 convention. Rathangan participated in the reorganisation of 1894.
[edit] Gaelic Football
An epic final junior championship final between Naas and Rathangan in 1919, a score for score battle between George Higgins and Jimmy Martin gave an indication of things to come. The two clubs dominated football in the 1920s. Joe and Paddy Loughlin, Paddy Martin and Peter Pringle played on All Ireland teams for Kildare. Lar Conlan scoring goal in the 1925 championship when they beat Naas by 2-4 to 1-3 for their only county title. In 1927 Rathangan and Ellistown teams were teaming up to form Springfield, and Rathangan returned to contest the 1928 county final, when they lost a four point lead then succumbed to a Jack Higgins goal from a rebounded free. There were so many pitch invasions that the match took over two hours to play and the County Chairman resigned as a result. In 1933 when they lost to Athy. Rathangan amalgamated with Kildare to win a county title on a walkover in 1938. They were county semi-finalist in 1956 after a dramatic win over Sarsfields in which the Newbridge club had three goals disallowed. Ellistown and Rathangan entered a combined team in the 1970s. After a frustrating period during which they Rathangan lost four Intermediate finals in five years, 1972, 1973, 1975 (after a replay) and 1976 Rathangan eventually regained senior status and were senior semi-finalists again in 1982.

Rathangan entered hurling teams in the championships after 1905. Rathangan won the senior hurling championship in 1953 with a team made up of workers from the Killinthomas turf camp.
