Ratatoing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ratatoing is a Brazilian computer graphics cartoon film distributed in North America by Branscome International.[1]

The 44 minute-long film[2], originally produced in Portuguese, involves Marcell Toing, a rat who is the most gifted chef in Rio de Janeiro.

The United States version, released on DVD has English and Spanish voice tracks.

IF Magazine described Ratatoing as a "ripoff" of Ratatouille, an American film by Pixar.[3] Marcus Aurelius Canônico of Folha de S. Paulo described Ratatoing as a derivative of Ratatouille. Canônico discussed whether lawsuits from Pixar would appear. The Brazilian Ministry of Culture posted Marcus Aurelius Canônico's article on its website.[4]

Erik Henriksen, a reporter[5] from The Portland Mercury, criticized the company that produced Ratatoing of being "the laziest/cheapest movie studio of all time" due to similarities between Ratatoing and Ratatouille.[6]

The same company produced The Little Cars, which, in the same way that Ratatoing was accused of being a rip-off of Ratatouille, was accused of being a rip-off of Cars, Pixar's film released immediately before Ratatouille. They also made a video called "Little Bee" that had striking resemblences and was accused of being a "ripoff" of Bee Movie.
