Coordinates: 11°28′N 78°10′E / 11.47, 78.17 Rasipuram is a municipal corporation in Namakkal district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a town 27 km (16.5 miles) from Salem, in Namakkal district, has a population of around 50 thousand. The town is approximately 380 km southwest of Chennai, 235 km south of Bangalore and 110 km northwest of Tiruchirapalli (Trichy).

Rasipuram is a historic town dating back to at least the 1st century. Rasipuram got its name from Raajapuram which literally means King's town. Rasipuram is famous for its mouth watering ghee, Handloom silk sarees and future deciding education. It is also famous for its Lord Shiva temple constructed by King Valvil Ori. It is believed that the temple possesses a secret path to the 'Arabaleeswarar temple' (Lord Shiva temple) at top of Kolli hills , which is famous for medicinal herbal plants and natural honey. The Shiva temple is said to be built by Valvil Ori in 1st or 2nd century when he ruled this area. Rasipuram is known for Ghee.

Rasipuram is surrounded by Lakes and mountains.Having 1,200 acres (5 km²) lake in AnaiPalayam,Anai means Dam, Koneripatty lake (Area name)and Thattankuttan lake. But sadly it is not utilized now,slowly it becomes agriculture & residence areas.

Rasipuram is located at 11.47° N 78.17° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 246 metres (807 feet).

Kolli hills is located approximately 35 km from Rasipuram, which is a notable place to relax. It has a waterfall, which is believed to be medicated. It is famous for rare species of herbs. People believe that a category of saints, called Sittharkal (in Tamil) are living and meditating in the forest. This also houses temple of Arapaleeshwarar. It's a nice get a way for a day trip, that has many hair pin bends but no decent hotels to stay there.

As of 2001 India census[2], Rasipuram had a population of 46,370. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Rasipuram has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 66%. In Rasipuram, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
