Yekini also played Olympic football, in Seoul 1988.

After playing well in the Nigerian league, he went to Côte d'Ivoire to play for Africa Sports. From there he went on to Portugal and Vitoria Setubal, where he eventually became top scorer in the Portuguese Liga. His performances earned him the title African Footballer of the Year in 1993. After the1994 World Cup Height 6ft 1inch Yekini was bought by Olympiacos, but didn't get along with the players and left. His club career never really got back on track, even not upon a return to Setúbal.
