Ras Nas

Ras Nas aka Nasibu Mwanukuzi is a musician and poet from Tanzania. Ras Nas has performed for Nelson Mandela as well as shared the stage with Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and Van Morrison. One of his poems "Mandela" is currently used in an educational DVD for high school students in North America. The poem is taken from his collection of poems "Double Focus", published by "Kongoi Productions". In 1977 Ras Nas produced his debut CD "Cut You Loose" to a critical acclaim. One of the tracks from the CD, Trouble in a dub, was also included in Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide (RAW) compilation, RAW 2000.

His follow up CD "Dar-es-Salaam", released in 2008, contains songs in both English and Swahili languages. In November 2007, Ras Nas played at Oslo World Music Festival. Other artists at the festival included Seun Kuti, Cessaria Evora, Simphiwe Dana, Rachid Taha and Ba Cissoko.

Ras Nas style is a mix of reggae, soukous and dub poetry.
