[edit] New rules for bus routes

How about we adopt rules as follow:

1. Name stations by Station Name followed by system i.e. Ampang LRT, Serdang Komuter, Maharajalela Monorail; except for city hubs i.e. KL Sentral, Maluri

2. Name bus routes from KL city outwards

a. For trunk routes, from city hub to suburban hub (Maluri-Chan Sow Lin LRT station - Serdang KTM Komuter station),
b. For local shuttles, from suburban hub to the residential housing estate (Taman Segar - Bandar Damai Perdana).
c. For inter-hub routes, either direction should be OK (Bandar Utama - IOI Mall Puchong - Putrajaya Sentral)

3. It would be good to depict all stops on trunk routes and there are only a limited number.

4. Stops for local shuttles and loops are too many to list, although effort should be taken to descibe the route passed. i.e. 634: Bangsar LRT - Bangsar Park - Bangsar Shopping Centre - Pusat Bandar Damansara etc. Same with city shuttles.

5. In general when describing landmarks:

a. name important building followed by (area/road name) e.g. Serdang Hospital (Jalan Kajang) - if the building is more important than the area
b. name important building followed by (area/road name) e.g. Ikano (Mutiara Damansara), Dewan Tunku Canselor (Universiti Malaya) - if building and area are equally important
c. if a bus stops at a train station, but not inside it, name the train station followed by (road name) e.g. the area 5 & 6 trunks that pass Bangsar LRT but not inside it, follow convention Bangsar LRT (Jalan Bangsar), while 634 is just Bangsar LRT

But with the exceptions:

d. name area/road name followed by (landmark) e.g. Jalan Kelang Lama (Shell/Honda) - if the landmark is just a convenient location identifier

6. If a bus stop is within walking distance to a train station, include it in the description with the qualifier "near" e.g. Jalan Pantai Baharu (near Kerinchi LRT)

7. Standardize road names etc. Use "Jalan" and not "Jln", "Persiaran" and not "Pers", "Taman" and not "Tmn".

8. Standardize highway and road names, as defined by other Wikipedia entries e.g. Damansara-Puchong Expressway, not LDP or Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong

9. Use tables to describe routes.

10. Names of train systems: LRT, Monorail, Komuter - not KL Monorail, KTM Komuter, LRT Station etc.

11. Consolidate all the bus routes of different areas e.g. all local shuttle routes go into one table, city shuttle routes into another, trunks into another, expresses into another. Separating them into different tables and sections according to areas is redundant as the route numbers already describe the areas they serve.

12. Maintain the general descriptions of areas as well as historical information of bus revamp and put it in another sub-section.

13. Put bus connection information inside the LRT pages itself also e.g. the buses that serve KL Sentral, Kerinchi LRT, Ampang LRT etc.

14. Consider creating a new entry for Rapid KL buses, like that of the LRT lines.

15. Bold rail connections and city hubs.

16. Indicate loop services.

[edit] Bus route description consistency

Hi, I thought I would suggest some consistency to the Rapid KL bus route description. How about the following description conventions:-

1. Use City hub names introduced by Rapid KL eg. Titiwangsa, Maluri

2. Name the bus routes from Kuala Lumpur city outwards:

a. For trunk routes, from city hub to suburban hub (Maluri-Chan Sow Lin LRT station - Serdang KTM Komuter station),
b. For local shuttles, from suburban hub to the residential housing estate (Taman Segar - Bandar Damai Perdana).
c. For inter-hub routes, either direction should be OK (Bandar Utama - IOI Mall Puchong - Putrajaya Sentral)
d. For routes which begin in a residential area, call by a hub or LRT station, then continue on to another residential area, I have written them as two separate routes (Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station - Desa Tasik; Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station - Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) under the same number. I find this easier to refer to for a person who suddenly finds himself or herself at the hub or LRT station.

3. It would be good to depict all stops on trunk routes and there are only a limited number. The stops of local shuttles are just too many to list. 4. But when local routes are too long and circuitous, and especially for loop services, you may have to put some intermediate stops just to give an idea how the bus route runs.

These are just suggestions. Would welcome any amendments or further suggestions. Slleong 16:00, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Stargirl: Regarding point 2d., I'm not so sure about it. I can't seem to access the proper route information for Area 4 at Rapid KL's site, so I hope I understand it correctly. Is the route Desa Tasik - Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT - HUKM? If that is the case, I think for the sake of consistency, separating it doesn't sound like a good idea. This might be problematic when there are buses that pass more than 2 LRT Stations or hubs. Then the number of permutations increases. Anyway, separating the route gives the impression that Desa Tasik passengers have to get off at Tasik Selatan before they can continue their journey to HUKM.

[edit] Re: Improving the bus route lists

I have made a table for the 16 shuttle city routes so that it would look neater and easy to read. What do you guys think? Would this look better? I really appreciate someone to make similar tables for the routes for other lists as well, since I really have my hand fulls with studies. Thank you.

Now we have a column (VIA) to put all the important stops along the way. So if you guys want to, you can add up the stops to this column.

[edit] Route 116??

Is there any route numbered 116? please find out.--Zack2007 07:53, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] route 116

route 116 starts from KLCC to titiwangsa via jalan tun razak, goes to government office complex at jalan duta and ends up at government office complex at damansara.

latest: route 116 has been terminated w.e.f. 23 September with the introduction of area 6 buses into Jalan Duta

[edit] A few other issues

Can the format of the bus routes be standardized? Some areas have it in table form, others in lists.

I think the bus route descriptions are too simplified. For example 634 shows LRT Bangsar - Pusat Bandar Damansara. But it also takes us to Bangsar Shopping Centre and Jalan Semantan in between. These are important stops and they seem to have been left out.

Can we try to get graphical route maps? The only one available in PDF form is Areas 5 & 6. The rest are in image formats that show very little detail. Should we write to Rapid KL?

Anyone know how to get route information from other bus companies? Like Metrobus, Selangor, SJ, Triton etc?

Can we standardize: LRT Ampang, or Ampang LRT Station?

[edit] Standardization

yeah, I have tried to standardize all the public transport stations. I guess its easier/shorter to write it in this format, eg, KTM Serdang, LRT Chan Sow Lin, Titiwangsa Monorail. What do u guys think? Zack2007 05:54, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Let's standardize to Station name first, then mode. So Serdang KTM, Chan Sow Lin LRT, Titiwangsa Monorail. Let's dump station, it's redundant. 218.208.206.195 16:57, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Long article

I think the article has become rather long. Any thoughts on making the route details in separate pages?-Zack2007 15:10, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but I dont think its a wise idea to put all local routes into one table and trunk routes into one table.. it doesnt fit the hub and spoke concept.. It has to be divided into Areas as it has been ...(area 1,2,3,4,5,6) by putting them all in one table will confuse everyone. Sorry.. I will revert to the original tables but, by putting them into a different pages is a good idea.Zack2007 14:17, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Position of pictures and maps

I am just wondering whether the current alignment of maps and pictures on both the left and right side of the article is mucking up the text of the article. It may be boring but seems like keeping on the right side of the article will have the least effect on the text. Shall we get it changed?202.184.114.200 14:34, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
