Rapu-rapu Island

Rapu-rapu Island is an island in the Philippines where the municipality of Rapu-rapu, Albay is located. It is located in the Lagonoy Gulf.

It is one of the two islands comprising the whole municipality. The other island is Batan Island.


RapuĀ“-Rapu and Sorsogon communities recently wrapped up with a massive eight-day Kampong Bayan in front of the Albay Capitol in Legaspi to call for Lafayette's closure. This is the second Kampong Bayan and fourth massive protest rally to be held by Rapu-Rapu residents after a fish kill hit at least five barangays after heavy rains on October 28, 2007.


After months of being in the red, Lafayette Mining Limited, the Australian owner of Lafayette Philippines Inc. which operates the Rapu-Rapu Polymetallic Mining Project in Albay, today declared in a press release that they will be undergoing 'voluntary administration', allowing it to seek recapitalization or to sell off its mining operations in the Philippines. Lafayette's Board of Directors today transferred control of the company's business, property, and affairs to Australia-based administrator Ferrier Hodgson under Rod Sutton and Peter McCluskey.
