Rappelling
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rapelling is the act of descending from an elevated location via the controlled use of a rope. When used in reference to descending a cliff too steep to walk down (such as in rock climbing, mountaineering, caving and canyoneering), it is more properly termed Abseiling.
Rapelling is also often used in military and police contexts, as a manner of inserting soldiers or police officers into a hard-to-reach space via helicopter. This is a common technique used by special forces and SWAT teams.
