[edit] History

On June 2, 2007, the CHL announced that Rapid City had been granted an expansion team to begin play in the 2008-09 season. [1] Exactly two months later, the then-unnamed team named Joe Ferras their head coach and Director of Hockey Operations, and Jason Rent as General Manager. [2]. From August 15 until September 12 of that year, the team held a name-the-team contest, all the winning name selectors being entered into a contest for VIP treatment at a game (two premium tickets, limousine service to and from the game, two team jerseys, and participation in the ceremonial puck drop. [3]. On September 4, the team announced the finalists as the Rapid City Rush, the Rapid City Road Hogs, the Rapid City Bison, and the Rapid City Choppers. [4] Finally, on September 12, they announced the Rapid City Rush nickname had won the contest. [5]
