RapCity

Rap City is a Canadian television program that airs on the MuchMusic cable channel. It is not to be confused with the American TV show of the same name, Rap City.

The show features more music videos of underground and Canadian hip hop artists than its video show block counterpart, MuchVibe, but for the most part the two programs air the same content. Rap City also airs vintage and old-school videos, 5-10 years old.

The show's introduction displays a group of people in their twenties running in one direction in a dark, abandoned warehouse with papers blowing around. This group later congregates to surround a breakdancer. Also, at commercial breaks, there is a time-sequenced clip of two young men spray-painting the Rap City logo on the warehouse wall.

The show's original host was Michael Williams; later, the show was hosted by Master T. Most recently Rap City was hosted by Namugenyi Kiwanuka, but she left MuchMusic in 2003. Occasionally, a hip hop artist will guest-host Rap City.

Although Rap City used to air 5 nights a week, Much Music would constantly change the airtimes during it's run and since the fall of 2007 it airs once a week on Saturday nights at 11:00PM Eastern Standard Time.

The show began shortly after MuchMusic first went on the air in 1984, and is the only program from that time that is still in existence.
