[edit] Creating a wiki

Sorry, I don't know anything about how to create a wiki such that only certain people can edit it. Perhaps Barkjon can help. I'll see if I can find any information about it. --Qmwne235 15:24, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tips

Tips!

  • You graduate from the Adopt-a-User program when you feel confident to edit on your own.
  • Vandalism is when a user changes something good on a page to something bad or disrubtive.
  • Rollbacks are users who use a special tool to revert vandalism quicker.
  • Sysops are users who can block users, delete, protect, and un-protect pages, and make other users rollbacks. They can also rollback.
  • Bureacrats are users who can do the same things as sysops, but, in addition, they can make other users bots, sysops, and other bureacrats.

[edit] Creating a wiki only certain people can edit

Hello, Rantrom. As far as I'm aware, you can control wiki editing if you use PBwiki (read the FAQ at http://newfaq.pbwiki.com/Safety+and+security for more information), but if you're looking for answers on how to do this with MediaWiki, I'm afraid I can't help you there. [edit] More adoption tips

  • There are many "vandalism" reverting programs, such as Twinkle and Lupin's anti-vandal tool. Though these help a lot, you should try manual vandalism-reverting first.
  • If your talk page gets too busy, archive it. To see an example of an archive, see big-name editors here, like Jimbo Wales's talk page. It has a couple archived talk pages.
  • WikiProjects are groups of users specializing in one subject. Here's an example one: Wikipedia:WikiProject Rock music.
  • Barnstars are awards on Wikipedia. Look at various user's userpages to see some.
  • Have fun editing Wikipedia! Remember, be bold!

[edit] Tips

  • Mainspace pages are the pages with the information, without a prefix, like Panda.
  • The Userspace are the userpages. They have the User: prefix
  • Talk pages are discussion pages. They either talk about a mainspace page or they have messages for a user. They have the Talk: or User talk: prefix.
  • Images are the pictures and photos on Wikipedia. They have the Image: prefix. They also have discussion pages with the prefix Image talk:.
  • Keep on working!-- Barkjo 14:45, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
