Admin?

Hi there, I was considering nominating you as an admin. Do you think you would find the tools useful and are there any issues that you are aware of which might cause problems during the discussion? Tim Vickers 20:33, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Discussing policy is a good qualification in a candidate, I was thinking of incivility, 3RR or the like. Having strong opinions does not disqualify you from being an admin, as long as you are polite and considerate of others' points of view. Tim Vickers 20:47, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
My criteria are a lot broader than most, since I feel that since it isn't a big deal all users we can trust not to go crazy should be admins - you have to disqualify yourself, rather than qualify yourself. That said, you have a clean block log, solid contributions for about a year, ANI, AfD and RfA experience. I've seen you discuss admin actions at ANI and think you have a good handle on what works and how things are done. I trust the community to alert the discussion to any personal idiosyncrasies that could cause problems, so I am happy to nominate anybody meeting those criteria. I'll draft the nomination this morning (US Central time), but I'll be going off on holiday Sat afternoon, so hopefully we can get it in beforehand? Tim Vickers 16:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Writing up your recommendation at the moment, are you a he or a she? Tim Vickers 18:45, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Nomination has now been transcluded to the main page, good luck! Tim Vickers 15:51, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

(welcome from wikisource)

Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikisource! Thank you for fixing page Catholic Encyclopedia (1913)/David William Bacon. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Please consider putting a brief description of yourself on your user page. If you are already a contributor to another Wikimedia project, such as Wikipedia, please mention this on your user page so we know how to contact you. Also, mention which languages you understand if English is not your first language.

In any case, I hope you enjoy donating your time to grow the Wikisource library that is free for everyone to use! In discussions, please "sign" your comments using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question here (click edit) and place {{helpme}} before your question.

Again, welcome! John Vandenberg 02:29, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

Hello Random832! I see earlier this year made this edit. Could I ask whether it was made in good faith and evaluated the situation appropriately? I just need a bigger picture! :) Regards, Rudget 16:31, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

I see. I will now support your RFA, thanks for notifying me of the situation so quickly. Regards, Rudget 17:00, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations

A consensus has been reached by your peers that you should be an admin. I have made it so. Please review Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list and keep up the great work. Sincerely, Kingturtle (talk) 04:09, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Random, first off, congratulations. I hope you find the tools useful. I also have a small favor to ask. You might have noticed that your nomination was one of several others I made over the last two weeks, this was partly spurred by the threat of IPs being allowed to create new pages, but also has a more general objective. This other reason was that I have been a little disturbed by a growing attitude that admins are more than just editors with a few more buttons on their toolbars and are instead "senior editors" with greater authority. I think that the best way of dealing with this idea is to greatly expand the pool of admins to include a wider diversity of the pool of editors.
Since you have now passed the selection, would it be possible for you in turn select and nominate some people you trust? I'd suggest aiming for about three over the next month or so. Of those who are selected, could you ask them in turn to select and nominate three candidates. Such a chain of trust should result, over time, in a greatly enlarged pool of admins from a wide variety of backgrounds and thus provide a simple and effective way of spreading the responsibility - perhaps to the point where becoming an admin is seen as normal and expected, rather than a major achievement. I hope you'll be able to help me with this. Thank you. Tim Vickers (talk) 05:29, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
That would be great, thank you. Tim Vickers (talk) 16:44, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations

Hey there Random832, Congratulations on becoming an administrator. Obviously, it is unlikely that you will know how to use the tools at first and mistakes are bound to happen, so if you would like to practice using them, with step by step guides to follow, in an environement that you can do no harm in, then why not pop down to the new admin school where we have pages on blocking, deleting and restoring pages, protecting and unprotecting pages and viewing deleted pages. Once again, congratulations and best of luck with the tools. Ryan Postlethwaite 14:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
You're very welcome and I'm glad to see you succeeded in your RfA. Don't forget to try out your new tools at the New Admin School. Happy editing! Lradrama 17:24, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh! That's good. So there's no need for worry unless some sneaky person starts adding timestamps as a sneaky way to avoid discussion and having the subpage disappear into the archives. Chergles (talk) 20:46, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. No, not yet but then the entertainment industry in UK is somewhat haphazard and they won't regard this as a priority, more of a nuisance. I doubt if Annie or Ed will sue us. Deletion of Sarah Van Patten page

I don't understand why you deleted this page. Please explain. Sarah is one of less than 100 principal ballet dancers in the United States and Wikipedia has a section for Ballet dancers' bios. There are lots of bios already in the section - many with less performing experience and achievement than Sarah. Thanks for your response. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimvanpat (talkcontribs) 20:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I will be happy to work on the article, but how can I when it has been so quickly deleted? Also, ballet is a very specialized field. I suggest you take a look at the other ballet dancer bios for reference. Or google "Sarah van patten" to get a sense of her prominence in the field. Should I include dance reviews in the article? That seems too much to me.

And yes, I am related to Sarah. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimvanpat (talkcontribs) 20:47, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the undelete. I understand the COI issue but think I'm on good footing. I'll get busy improving the article. Thanks again.Jimvanpat (talk) 20:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, Random - I noticed that the spaces between the lines on the Gary Forrester article have come out a bit squirrelly. I'm not sure why or how that happened. The above image has been challenged by another user. Matthead (talk · contribs) believes it violates the terms of the vote result, and does not provide sources for the information presented. Can you explain your sources, and also the reason for using polish names for all places (even those that are in the same region as Konigsberg, which itself you named in 'German (Polish)' style)?—Random832 18:44, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

To my eye it also has another problem: It does not explain what the other colors mean. You seem to have said it is cropped from a larger map, can you provide a link to that map?—Random832 18:46, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy delete the original research image Image:Teutonic_takeover.PNG is used in edit wars at Teutonic takeover of Danzig (Gdańsk), History of Gdańsk (Danzig), Pomerelia in order to supersede the proper sourced map Image:Pommerellen.png. Wikipedia footnotes & references

Hi Random - I'm going to undertake the task, over the next week or so, of furthering your work on the footnoting & referencing of sources for the Gary Forrester article. As you have pointed out, even after your extensive footnote rearrangement, there are several multi-references in some of the notes, and other tidy-ing up issues. I haven't done this before (work on Wikipedia footnotes), but I think I understand how you were proceeding - basically, that every reference/source gets its own number, then you cite with that number throughout the article whenever that source supports a fact (together with any other numbers, if more than one source supports a point). If I've counted correctly, there are 44 separate sources for this particular article, each of which will get its own number, and then the numbers will be assigned as appropriate to the asserted facts. Does it sound like I am on the right path? I don't want to mess around with (and build upon) your previous work unless I am following your methodology. Thanks!--Strapping.jofus (talk) 20:36, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Re:Gdansk-Vote-Notice

Better colors, certainly. I would very strongly suggest making it a show/hide template - see Template:Polish uprisings for example.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 21:58, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

I strongly oppose the attempt to marginalize the fact that Danzig was called Danzig for over 600 years. Don't mess with the template to please the few Polish editors who openly oppose the vote, like with the Template:Gdansk-Vote-Results that needs to be deleted. -- Matthead  DisOuß   15:03, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

I've printed out Wikipedia:Footnotes, and I'll have a go at this. Thanks very much. I'm sure I'll make some mistakes, but I'll do my best. Cheers,--Strapping.jofus (talk) 22:28, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

The link I provided is the source of this image. I , however, have edited it (most notably in colour), to make it more accurate and in keeping with the official logo (the old image was too dark- from a separate website to the actual school). That is why I have replaced the image. Not all images have direct sources via a url. I did not realise I had to state this. Very sorry for the inconvenience caused. Seeking advice

Hi Random - Please see my separate reply on the Forrester discussion page. I'm afraid we might have done the wrong thing, albeit with good intentions. As I said on the discussion page: "Four of the people working on the article (including me) are his oldest kids (all in university - he has two younger ones still at home). We've been trying to make this article right after it got deleted when he was doing it himself and getting carried away. Is that relationship a problem? He's not directly involved in this second effort. If there's a problem, we'd better bow out, but we were just trying to get the facts right and meet the sourcing concerns previously expressed, in a much more objective manner. We've had to pull these sources together from contacts in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and other places, which hasn't been easy." Now I'm not sure what should be done. What are your thoughts? Apologies for any inadvertant disregard of policy!!--Georgette.mccallum (talk) 23:08, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Brief follow-up

Thanks for your reply, Random. Should Joseph and I keep going with the footnote revisions, or should we back out? I think we could get these footnotes sorted out in about a week (completing what you started), and it would just be an administrative thing, not adding any content, but we don't want to blur the lines. An alternative is just to send the proposed footnote revisions through to you, so that you could assess and edit, although that would be a lengthy note and I hate to impose on you. Sigh.--Georgette.mccallum (talk) 23:17, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Note: Usernames that match the name of a well-known living or recently deceased person,
It's not clear that the second applies (I don't know how well-known someone has to be, but FWIW I've never heard of him), and the first does not.—Random832 19:18, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Mr. Randi is mentioned on the William Rodriguez article, as Rodriguez once worked for Randi as an assistant. User:Jrandi was editing that section and clearly knows who Mr. Randi is. That is really not acceptable, per WP:USERNAME. As well, Randi, his foundation, and discussion forums are well known concerning the topic of 9/11 conspiracy theories. Willie Rodriguez himself has posted there, and has been subject of much discussion there. I have suspicions as to who was really editing from that account, but per WP:USERNAME, it doesn't matter.
Also, in the future, it would be better to ask on my talk page or e-mail me. The blocking admin may know more details. In this situation, I prefer not discussing on User talk:Jrandi. --Aude (talk) 02:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Next time, you will run into a case involving different admins. That's what I meant by "blocking admin". In this case, I should have mentioned more of my concerns on ANI and say to e-mail me for details. I'm simply alarmed at the edits from that account, concerned about who might have been editing, and also concerned about WP:BLP. Thus, careful to watch what I say, especially to that person who was editing from that account. They may not know other pages to look at, where the block is being discussed, but likely to see their own talk page. Anyway, don't worry about this time. --Aude (talk) 03:38, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Arara, Paraíba

Hey, there. I think you jumped the gun in deleting 27 edits on this article.

There is, in fact, NOT a copyright violation, but a use of text from the Portuguese language Wikipedia. This language has ended up on another GNU-licensed site, as I reported on Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English a few minutes ago.

Andreas seems to have been rather imprecise in reporting this as a copyvio - he's done odd things before, but he's basically a good guy. Talk to him and find out what he has to say.

The problem we have on PagesNeedingTranslation is that we don't let people cut and paste text from other Wikipedias as a way of making an end-run around the usual translation process. We also watch for other deletables, including copyvio.

This article should be restored, at least to its machine-translated version, and not all the way back to its original stub beginning. There's a lot of good formatting and stuff that was put in in some of those 27 edits. --Cbdorsett 15:44, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  • OK, you are right about that one sentence. That does not mean that the entire rest of the article is copyvio. It's easy to delete a single sentence. That's what you should have done. Cbdorsett 15:55, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring the history - the text will make my work a lot easier. Keep in mind that the copyvio is just a single sentence, and I know which one it is. I will make sure that the resulting text is clean. Cbdorsett 16:00, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I definitely support your efforts to keep Wikipedia clear of copyright violations. I'm sure you'll be careful now not to take every claim of violation at face value. By the way, have you determined whether the government of Brazil has any claims to copyright at all? I know the US has very limited claims, but I'm not sure that that rule applies across the board. Cbdorsett (talk) 19:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Don't be rude

Unicode blacklist

I happened to see an old comment of yours referring to a "unicode blacklist" to make it send &#xxx; instead of unicode characters to browsers that mess them up - it's been suggested that iCab on Mac OS 9 has trouble with unicode characters in forms inputs, though I can't check it myself (and the user who has been having trouble has other difficulties, etc, that make it hard to communicate). Just thought it might be something worth checking into. —Random832 15:50, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

It's in fact called $wgBrowserBlackList, and is set on LocalSettings.php. This means you have to know the correct user agent string for the problematic browser, and ask a developer to add it to the list for you. --cesarb (talk) 23:33, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikibooks!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

  • To learn the wiki-markup-language syntax, see b:Help:Editing.
  • Make sure to sign your posts and comments with four tildes, like this: ~~~~
    • There is a box at the top of the edit window (if javascript is enabled on your browser) that will insert it too (looks like part of a signature). This will let others know who left it, and make it easy to reply back to you.
  • Remember to conduct any editing experiments in the sandbox.
  • You can tell the community something about yourself in your userpage.
    • You can get to this page by clicking the tab at the top of the page labeled with your registered username.
  • Wikibooks is a collection of open-source textbooks. (What is Wikibooks).
  • If you are a Wikipedian, see Wikibooks:Wikibooks for Wikipedians for a primer on how things work here (it's a little different).
    • If you want to base your work here on materials from Wikipedia, please use WB:RFI (requests for importation) to bring the material over in compliance with the GFDL.
  • If you're an instructor and plan on using Wikibooks for a class project, see Wikibooks:Guidelines for class projects
  • Please say hello at the Reading Room with any questions or ideas.
  • Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
    • Help us by participating in policy and guideline creation.
    • Please take a look at Wikibooks:Naming policy before starting a new book.
  • Remember to maintain a Neutral point of view.
  • Explore, be bold in editing pages, and have fun!

You will find more resources in Community Portal. If you want to ask a question, visit the Study help desk, the Reading Room, IRC channel or ask me personally on my talk page. For site news, see the Bulletin board. It might be a good idea to add that page to your "watchlist" so that you can see when any new information is posted there. You can do that by clicking the tab labeled "watch" at the top of the page.

Good luck! --Panic (talk) 20:34, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Jimp, Thunderbird2, and I have been discussing the creation of a template based on this technique over on my talk page here. A nut-shell overview of what the template would do is here. Hope to see you there. Greg L (my talk) 08:36, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Re: Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts/Gadgets

I'm actually quite aware of that functionability and I was confused at why the links didn't work at first. Now I know why and so thank you for explaining. --Prevalis (talk) 04:49, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Re:Tags

This has already been discussed. A new project Wikipedia:WikiProject New page has also been created to make new page patrol good. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 19:11, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Talk page

Thanks for the talk page help. Hard-banned Primetime (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log) was recently discovered to snuck back and he's angry about being found-out. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Sue Page

Yeah, serves me right using multiple browser tabs. Special:Log/delete - I restored it immediately after I deleted it when the talk page appeared. Thanks for the heads up though! Pedro :  Chat  15:46, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Problem

I'm so sorry Random832 for the KND thing. If there's anything I can do to make it up to you...Everyoneandeveryone (talk) 15:48, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Question

I saw that you blocked Grimjaw for 24 hours for breaking the three revert rule on the Characters of Tenjho Tenge‎ article. How come you did not also block Betacommand , who also broke the three revert rule? (Duane543 (talk) 01:34, 5 January 2008 (UTC))

Thank you for explaining things. Even though their will be editors (me included) that don't like the new policy, but what makes the transition worse is how both Betacommand and Hammersoft operate. They never give forewarning, they come out of no where and edit on a article they have never been before. They leave only a little explication and most editors do not know of the policy or guidelines changes. They rather war edit then discuses things and even if you do get them to a talk page, they still don't explain it as well as you did. In my opinion, they operate way too shady and don't treat other editors with respect that what causes things to get out of hand more then what they should. (Duane543 (talk) 16:35, 5 January 2008 (UTC))

Matt Sanchez

Hi Random, as you were the protecting admin, and due to it being an OTRS request, it's only right that I let you know I've editing the fully protected Matt Sanchez article. There was a section in there about entertainment that had really really bad sources so I took it out per WP:BLP - I hope you understand my reasons for this edit. Ryan Postlethwaite 19:54, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Hippocrite!

Dear Random832, Since you are an admin, i would like to tell you that well, it all started when I saw that Bowmister (follow the 1 link)[1] vandalized McDonald's article so I told them that vandalizing is wrong. Then they tell me that I am targeting him, but no administrator or bot told me that I was targeting him, because he is clearly misinformed. It also says on Wikipedia:No personal attacks that (I am paraphrasing) telling U that their information at X is wrong because of Y is not targeting. I said to Bowmister (follow the 2 link)[2](U) that vandalizing like you did to McDonald's saying that their coffee is brewed from human flesh(X) is wrong and it can get you banned.(Y) Then, he talls me that targeting can get me banned? Well I wasn't targeting!!!!! Now this is not targeting, and I learn from my mistakes, but obviously they doesn't! And they are just being difficult. Oh, and on their user page it says on a list of people huu are fat, (Huu?) It says a lot of names, and then RayquazaDialgaWeird2210! I just cannot believe him! And if you can't, just see for yourself- any Wikipedian would think he is unpleasent! Anyway, please give me a way to approach them so I don't get banned because I am very conscious about this and now, and when I posted on his discusion. Please and thank you, your very desperate stranger, --RayquazaDialgaWeird2210 (talk) 00:49, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

uw-username

Even when I've filled it in in the past, it never shows up. Is there some problem with the template? Daniel Case (talk) 16:31, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

That might have been the problem; I think I only did what the template documentation said to do. I'll see how it works in the future. Daniel Case (talk) 16:38, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

The Xiph logo

I think Image:Fish xiph org.png has the same concern as Image:XiphophorusLogoSVG.svg, but perhaps I'm just confused. I can't make sense of this stuff and in the future will just use images from Commons. / edg 17:34, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

For deleting David Vanneck; I thought I was going to go nuts trying to get that vandal to stop.--CastAStone//(talk) 21:24, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I actually was in the process of doing that, [3], but you got it first. Thanks again.--CastAStone//(talk) 21:55, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I see. I checked the history and somehow assumed that the user added the tag in one of their edits. Thanks for fixing my mistaken deletion. Best regards, PeaceNT (talk) 20:18, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

No. If it can be protected ab initio, then by all means. -- Avi (talk) 16:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, and thanks for letting me know. How do we protect red-linked pages again? I thought transclusion on to protected pages was deprecated? -- Avi (talk) 16:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

==Template_talk:Convert==

While we are at it, metres to feet is also badly formatted. We don't talk about being 6.5 ft tall, we say 6' 6" or 6ft 6in. It will be easily misinterpreted... Thanks for taking a look at this. (Copied to yor talk so you can see this last post quickly.)--Bob (talk) 16:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Bob,
I'll be getting to work on conversions to feet & inches, etc. in the near future.
Random,
Thanks for the star (but who's to say I haven't gone insane?). Jɪmp 17:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Talk:Chris Crocker (Internet celebrity)

Hi, Could you please copy the paragraph that was deleted from the article and paste it to the talk page RFC which is discussing that same paragraph but is using an older version (stats have since been updated and refs added). Currently the RfC has the old version of that paragraph. Although I expect the one editor who is opposed to its use will continue to oppose we should all be looking at the latest version of that paragraph. I would do this myself but I'm not an editor and the article is locked. Thank you! Benjiboi 17:11, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

 ?

I'm wondering why you made this edit. --NE2 18:24, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Hitting edit and save without making any changes usually clears up category inclusion issues. --NE2 18:38, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

If you had paid attention to that conversation and gone over everything you would know that my last edit looked almost exactly like the original, it has the same background color, border color, etc. Also what made that border:

<div style="margin-left:14px; float:right;  border:2px solid #aaaaaa; background-color:#FFDDDD; width:290px;">
<center>

never had an ending and don't exist. By my last edits his userboxes were in a clean precise manner, nothing to get mad over. -Babelious 20:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I mentioned this somewhere but by the time I made my last edit I hadn't known that the categories had been removed, I thought he had reverted them like he had been doing. -Babelious 20:47, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
By __just__ you mean just (rhetoric)? Userboxes are just better when they are transcluded, if that entire discussion between him and me hadn't started I would have pointed out to him what subst: ing userboxes does, because he is just going to do it again, and if he does that then I am going to have to talk to him again, asking him to take his page out of those categories. I'd tell him that right now but he pulled some Mensa elitism bs and started looking down on me, assuming things and making an ass (I mean this in context, you heard the saying assuming makes an ass- out of -u- and -me?) out of himself. -Babelious 20:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry I don't plan on going crazy on userpages, as long as they are not in user template categories, I don't care. I just couldn't help trying to help Tstrobaugh. -Babelious 21:03, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah the trouble is differentiating between idle users and active users, along with what decisions to make and not to make, etc. etc. By go crazy I more meant just going to random userpages and "sourcing" their userboxes, which I don't plan on doing... ever. I think with Tstrobaugh it was just a miscommunication, [...]. -Babelious 21:09, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I have been working on the encyclopedia (yes I mean mainspace), just userbox templates are a dark corner of Wikipedia no one really works on. For instance some of these userboxes are part of the group of Uncategorized templates, which shouldn't exist. Organization is also a key. -Babelious 21:17, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Just like I found it insulting when he said I was level en-2? I knew he would be insulted, so I didn't assume, and if you hadn't spoken to me I wouldn't have mentioned it.
On a sort of unrelated issue I can't see how people take offense to it, autism is friggin awesome. I have always wanted to multiply large numbers in my head. -Babelious 21:20, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm I have been reading that discussion and I see that all the users keep saying that these projects "BITE", but they never say how, they just say that they do. Could you be more descriptive than they? -Babelious 21:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
That makes sense. I was never trying to tell T. that he was wrong, but rather that I wanted to help him, and we just didn't get across to each other.
I am really doing something more along the lines of "Category Cleanup", but can that be "bitey" as far as I can comprehend that doesn't entail editing userpages, hence the name. -Babelious 21:30, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

"Express what you like, rather than what you don't like."
Nonsense, what you do like can be inflammatory as well, such as "I am a homosexual person", I leave my userboxes since Wikipedia policy is not OK on this subject. Mallerd 12:10, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Now, I saw you said Wikipedia works with consensus made by the Wikipedia community. Now I want to know something. Many, many people find homosexuality inappropriate and some even find it somewhat offensive, you can't deny this. Perhaps a majority of the world think this (I even saw a homosexual who thought homosexuality was wrong, I believe on dr. Phil). Now what if one day the entire world's population would be registered or contributing (in)to Wikipedia/media.org, is it then justified to delete, and thus censor, one's userbox with "I am homosexual"?

  • If you say yes, then I understand that because you are a Wikipedian.
  • If you say no, I don't understand why there isn't a better policy on userboxes and the definitions of the appropriate. Such as deleting inflammatory (see quote from my talkpage).

Of course, homosexuality should not be the only issue and one could come up with many more, but the point is that the consensus method is not right when discussing inflammatory, offensive, right, wrong etc.

Now I posted this question on your talkpage because if you agree you can have more influence on policies I assume. To get a discussion going perhaps. Thanks for your time. Mallerd (talk) 19:42, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
