[edit] Bufonid names
Hi,
I recently updated many of the Bufonid pages to be in line with Frost et. al. 2006. I was wondering if you had any reason for changing them back. The reference you provided is two years older, and would therefore be out of date. Thanks --liquidGhoul (talk) 06:22, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- The Frost et al. paper is highly controversial and poorly supported, and there are several papers in press rejecting that taxonomy and retaining a much broader genus Bufo. Changing at this time is a big problem, and will simply result in greater confusion in the literature. The study I cited provides support for the monophyly of Bufo. It turns out that some of the DNA sequences used by Frost et al. were not even from anurans, but rather represent parasites of frogs. In addition, the alignment of the genes was highly problematic.--Ranapipiens (talk) 23:38, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
