Ranulf

The name Ranulf itself is a scottish variation of the old Norse name Randulfr, a Scandinavian cognate of Randolf. Pronounced RAN-dahlf, the name means shield of wolf; ran being rim (of a shield)) and dahlf being wolf. Though this name is virtually extinct nowadays, it was a popular name in germanic medieval culture.
