Ranny, sometimes spelled Ranni, is a town in Pathanamthitta District Kerala, India that is located at . It is located on the banks of holy river Pampa. Sabarimala is situated near Ranny. There are many plantations and paddy fields in the area. Rubber is the main cash crop of Ranny. Tapioca, cardamom and black pepper are extensively cultivated in Ranny. Ranny is also famous for the Reserved Forests.
History
In the ancient times Ranny was a 'budhist' centre. It was believed that sabarimala temple
was a budhist temple. From 3rd AD Ranny was under Panthalam Kingdom. At that times Ranny was used to attacked by Pirates like Vavar, mountain warriors like Udayanan.At that time Panthalam King brought two warriors frm Tamil Nadu: Sakthi and Vikraman. These people defeated every enimies . The panthalam king as gave them Ranny as a gift and gave them name as 'KOTAYIL KARTHAS'.
