[edit] History

RanksTel launched in may 2005[2] and had 25,000 lines in operation in Sylhet (north-east zone) and Chittagong (south-east) by the end of February 2006.[3] Now it has 112.560 thousand lines in operation.

[edit] Numbering Scheme

RanksTel uses the following numbering scheme for its subscribers:

+880 44 N1N2N3N4N5N6N7N8

where 880 is the International Subscriber Dialling Code for Bangladesh and is needed only in case of dialling from outside.

44 is the access code for RanksTel as allocated by the Government of Bangladesh. Omitting +880 will require to use 0 in place of it instead to represent local call, hence 044 is the general access code.
