Rankin Ranch was the home of Jeanette Rankin, whose 1916 election to the U.S. House of Representatives made her the first woman elected to a national representative body anywhere in the world, ever.
The site was declared a National Historic Landmark and thereby added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.[1][3]
