Rangers pub

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rangers pubs describe public houses, particularly in certain parts of Glasgow, the West of Scotland, and Northern Ireland, which cater to a clientele of supporters of Rangers. These pubs are usually decorated in team colours (red, white and blue) with flags, photographs of players and other related paraphernalia adorning the walls. While the Rangers-supporting nature will most often be officially encouraged by the landlord, these are not considered theme pubs and are usually fairly traditional in atmosphere.

Often these pubs will screen the games on large televisions, however it is not unknown for those in Glasgow to close their doors on matchdays to prevent confrontations with other teams' fans. Due to their position, many of their regulars would no doubt be attending the game - indeed, some of these establishments have attached supporters' clubs and lay on transport to and from the stadiums. an example of a famous Rangers Pub is The Loudon Tavern in Glasgow.

The implicit segregation in these pubs is a symptom of Glasgow's sometimes fierce footballing, and religious, rivalries. Equally, supporters of Celtic FC have their own variety of Celtic pubs. Both are known to exist around Northern Ireland - reflective of its own divisions and support for the Scottish teams. Rangers pubs will also be found across the world, particularly in areas where there are large numbers of British ex-pats, for example The USA, Canada, Australia and other Commonwealth contries.
