Rangers in Reverse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rangers in Reverse is the last episode in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

[edit] Sypnosis

Tommy, Rocky, Adam, Billy and Aisha are at the Juice Bar, planning a surprise birthday trip to the Carnival for Kat. While the Rangers celebrate her birthday, Master Vile brought forth the Orb of Doom from beneath the Earth's surface. Immediately, Alpha 5 senses trouble, and Zordon calls the Rangers. He warns them about the effects of the Orb of Doom if it is secured by the villains. The Rangers morph and split into two groups; Tommy, Rocky, and Kat face Rito and one group of Tengas, while Adam, Billy, and Aisha face another. The latter group is forced to use their Metallic Armor power-up to defeat the Tengas. This was the last appearance of the Metallic Armor on Power Rangers, and was the only time individual changing sequences were seen for each Ranger.

While the Rangers are occupied with the Tengas, Rito secures the Orb of Doom. Tommy attempts to destroy it but cannot penetrate it's energy field. Rito activates the Orb, which reverses time on Earth and turns everyone in the near vicinity (the Rangers plus Bulk, Skull, and Lt. Stone and everyone else at the Carnival) into children. Rita, Rito, Lord Zedd and Goldar then make themselves grow (the only time Rita and Zedd themselves actually grow) and attack. The Ranger children (who still remember being Rangers, unlike when Lord Zedd reversed time) attempt to morph, but their powers do not work with them as children. The show ends (as does the entire series, with Mighty Morphin' Alien Rangers following) with the Rangers powerless to stop the large villains.

[edit] Notes

  • This is the only episode in which solo Metallic Armor transformation sequences are seen (and only for three of the Rangers).
  • Lord Zedd references his own failed plan to turn the Rangers into children from "Rangers Back in Time (1)".
  • This episode features the first time Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd have ever appeared giant sized
  • This episode features the final original in-action appearances of the Pink, Blue, and Yellow Mighty Morphin' Ranger powers, though their suits will appear throughout PRZ, along with the rest of the team, sans Green. Aside from in-display, Red Mighty Morphin' Ranger's powers will next be seen in PRWF's "Forever Red", Black Mighty Morphin' Ranger's powers will next be seen in both PRiS' "Always A Chance" and PROO's "Once a Ranger" two-parter, and White Mighty Morphin' Ranger will next be seen (in dreams, but still "in-action") in PRZ's "King for a Day" and PRDT's "Fighting Spirit".
  • This episode features the final appearance of the Metallic Armor for the Blue, Yellow, and Black Rangers, and with it the final appearance of the Metallic Armor, period. (edit)
  • This episode features the final time Billy ever morphs into a Power Ranger (though the mostly-unpublished Power Rangers Zeo comic by Image intended to make him the Grey Ranger). This is also the final time Aisha will morph into a Ranger.
  • Tommy (Jason David Frank), Billy (David Yost), Rocky (Steve Cardenas), Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch), Aisha (Karan Ashley), Kat (Catherine Sutherland), Bulk (Paul Schrier), and Skull (Jason Narvy) are de-aged to children. Their normal actors do not appear again until "Hogday Afternoon (2)", aside from Billy's, who returns in "Climb Every Fountain".

[edit] Trivia

  • Young Rocky still had spiky hair in a ponytail.
  • Lt. Stone's green sedan bears the license plate number KDE 615, however this was the same license plate number as Kim's car in "Follow That Cab", only 12 episodes previous.
  • After White Ranger had been shot by the Orb of Doom, the tip of Saba's blade was broken off. (Saba never appeared again after this scene (except on the dummy White Ranger's belt in the Power Chamber), so it was probably not fixed).
  • Lt. Stone turns into a child, yet isn't seen nor mentioned again until Zeo. It's possible his close proximity to the Orb Of Doom reverted him in physical and mental age at a higher rate, though.
  • Billy claims they retained their memories thanks to the power coins, despite the previous physical-reversal spell in "Rangers Back In Time" not doing the same. The last time, the Rangers had the old Dino Coins. This time, they have the Ninja Coins, which, as evident during the problems Kim had when Kat stole her coin, are connected to the Rangers on a spiritual level, and this time around would shield them from the mental effects of the physical-reversal spell.
