Rangers played a total of 45 competitive matches during the 1989-90 season. The team finished top of the Scottish Premier Division and won the second of its nine consectutive league titles, despite only picking up 9 points from their first 8 matches.
In the cup competitions, they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup in the fourth round, losing 1-0 to Celtic and the team lost the Scottish League Cup final, 2-1 to Aberdeen.
In Europe they were knocked out the European Cup by German side Bayern Munich. They lost the tie 3-1 on aggregate.
