Randy Johnson represents the 5th District of Hennepin County government in Minnesota. Hennepin is the largest of Minnesota's 87 counties in population, budget and estimated value. Hennepin's population is 1.1 million, which is 22 percent of the state's population and about half of the population of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Minneapolis is the county seat.
Johnson, a member of the County Board since 1979, represents the suburban cities of Bloomington, Eden Prairie and Richfield.
Commissioner Johnson was re-elected chair of the County Board for 2008. He chaired the County Board previously from 1997 through 2000 and again from 2004 through 2007.
Johnson has been re-elected eight consecutive times to represent his district. He has served longer on the Hennepin County Board than any other Hennepin commissioner since the county’s formation in 1852.
