Franklin Randolph Knight, Jr. (born April 8, 1972) is an American ecologist, businessman, and a Democratic Party politician in Georgia. He is currently an announced candidate for U.S. Senate to replace incumbent Saxby Chambliss.
He currently lives with his wife and two children in Atlanta, Georgia.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Rand was the first son of Judy Mozen and Randy Knight. As a child, he developed a love for nature, swimming, fishing, hiking and camping. Rand attended The Westminster Schools in Atlanta from kindergarten through graduation. He spent his breaks working as a carpenter’s apprentice, camping with his family, and visiting relatives in Brunswick, where his grandfather ran a butcher’s shop and delivered milk.
Rand spent the summer before graduating working as an intern under the Vice President of Environmental Policy at Turner Productions After graduating from Westminster, Rand attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where he was active in student government. He earned his degree in Environmental Studies, then studied for his Master’s Degree at the University Of Washington in Seattle from 1996 to 1998.[1][2] While studying for his Master's, Rand started a sustainable development business with a classmate. After working for several years as an ecologist with the United States Forest Service and as a manager and systems analyst in the private sector, Rand continued his formal education and earned a Ph.D. in Ecosystems Analysis at the University of Washington in 2003.[3][4] From 2004 to 2006 Rand was a scientist for the National Ecological Observatory Network, and he is currently the Director of Enterprise Sales and Global Business Development at QL2 Software, Inc. in Seattle.[5]
In June, 2007, Rand announced his candidacy for United States Senate.[6][7][8]
He has earned the support of Former Congresswoman Denise Majette, who is also serving as his State Chair.
On May 30th, 2008 Rand Knight was endorsed by the Georgia AFL-CIO. This is the first time in Georgia's history that the AFL-CIO has endorsed a Federal Candidate with no Elected Experience.
