Ranchview High School is a part of Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District, although it is located in Valley Ranch within the city limits of Irving. Ranchview has a 54-acre site which is located between Valley Ranch Parkway South, Valley Ranch Parkway East and Ranchview Drive. The school mascot is the Wolves, and the school colors are navy, teal, and silver. Ranchview opened in 2002 starting with 8th and 9th grades only, although high schools in CFB-ISD do not traditionally include 8th grade. The following year, the 8th grade class became the freshman class (the 8th grade class was eliminated from the school), and the school continued with the 9th and 10th grades. The school added a grade each year there after until reaching full high school status (9-12th grades) in the 2005-2006 school year.

Ranchview was built with the highest technological advances available in the school district. The school was built with "spine labs" which are computer labs each of which are connect to four classrooms, giving each class room access to its fully equipped computer lab. The student to computer ratio at full capacity in the school will be 2:1. Each classroom also contains an A/V equipment cart, giving teachers a great advantage and a great resource while teaching. Each A/V cart includes a media projector, its own computer, a DVD player,a VCR, various equipment, and an overhead camera to replace traditional overhead projectors.

Another phase is set to start in 2007 which will add a new classroom wing, due to the current small size of the school. It will also add an auditorium and expand the cafeteria.

In May 2006, Ranchview graduated its first class of 154 seniors, with a total of 1.5 million dollars in scholarships awarded. Some of the academic achievements of this first graduating class include National Merit Scholar, College Board's National Hispanic Recognition Scholar, Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Coca-Cola Scholar and Terry Foundation Scholar. Recent graduates have enrolled at Baylor University, Bowdoin College (Stephanie Williams), Stanford University (Eric Walker), University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, Southern Methodist University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Johns Hopkins University (Minhaj Chowdhury), Duke University (Rachel Willcutts), Carnegie Mellon University (Mohit Raghunathan), Louisiana State University, and others.

The Ranchview High School Boys' Basketball team, in its second year of varsity play, went to the Texas High School State 3-A Basketball Finals losing only to Roosevelt High School.

Ranchview High School is also home of the broadcast station WPTV 22 (Wolfpack Television) which is produced by students with minimal teacher supervision.
