Rancho Tehama Reserve is located at 40°0′29″N, 122°25′33″W (40.008099, -122.425912)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 21.6 square miles (55.9 km²), of which, 21.5 square miles (55.6 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.42%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,406 people, 534 households, and 370 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 65.5 people per square mile (25.3/km²). There were 731 housing units at an average density of 34.0/sq mi (13.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 82.36% White, 1.00% African American, 3.63% Native American, 1.42% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 7.82% from other races, and 3.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.44% of the population.

There were 534 households out of which 21.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 21.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 21.4% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 20.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 101.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $25,236, and the median income for a family was $25,878. Males had a median income of $25,069 versus $19,350 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $12,738. About 18.3% of families and 25.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 38.9% of those under age 18 and 3.4% of those age 65 or over.

In the state legislature Rancho Tehama Reserve is located in the 4th Senate District, represented by Republican Sam Aanestad, and in the 2nd Assembly District, represented by Republican Doug LaMalfa. Federally, Rancho Tehama Reserve is located in California's 2nd congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +13[3] and is represented by Republican Wally Herger.
