[edit] Rob Hancheroff
Hi, I happened to see Rob Hancheroff pop up in the list of new articles, and I think it's a fascinating story. However, it isn't really appropriate for Wikipedia if it hasn't been published elsewhere; see Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Verifiability for why. Do you know of any reliable sources that might be able to verify Hancheroff's story? Melchoir 04:11, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hello Melchoir.
There is a Highway Stranger story in John Columbo's Mysterious Canada which, according to my research, led me to Rob Hancheroff (I am a documentary filmmaker and this came about as a side project.) I had hoped this would qualify, as I would like to see further contributions/edits from those who are familiar with the tale. If this contribution violates the rules, then I will remove it. Thank you. Ram Patu 04:41, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting... a side project, you say? I don't suppose you plan on distributing a film that would include this story? Possibly if you did, we could describe the Hancheroff theory as originating with the film. For now, perhaps we should just delete the article. You can request it yourself by applying {{db-author}}, or if you want to keep the page around for your own reference, you can move it to User:Ram Patu/Scrapbook or User:Ram Patu/Rob Hancheroff or similar. In fact, the latter option will still allow others who stumble across the page to add to it, while it won't violate any content policies because it's in your personal space.
- Anyway, thanks for being so upfront. I'm sorry for the trouble, and I hope this doesn't discourage you from improving Wikipedia in other ways! Cheers, Melchoir 05:14, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, I forgot to address the book. If Mysterious Canada identifies Hancheroff and generally backs up the content of the article, then that would be fine. But it sounds like much of the article is your own research, which is why WP:NOR applies. Melchoir 05:16, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Hello. Thanks for replying. I have attempted to move the article but cannot, for one of three reasons. (I believe it's because I'm too new a member, as I don't believe I've broken other rules.) I will attempt again tomorrow, or perhaps you can do that for me (?). I will not be upset if you remove it completely as I have all the information backed up, of course. Also-- by the time my film finds cohesion, Rob's story may well be included. But that may well be a year from now, or more. Ram Patu 05:29, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm... I'm not sure how long it takes for that restriction on moving to wear off; I think I heard somewhere that it's three days, or maybe four. Well, I'll just move it for you, then, to User:Ram Patu/Rob Hancheroff. Good luck with the film! Melchoir 05:39, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Excellent and thank you. I am currently trying to familiarize myself with all the rules so this sort of thing doesn't happen again. Ram Patu 05:49, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:604242.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:604242.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Phil Sandifer 19:14, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sunday03-18.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Sunday03-18.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:25, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
