Unnamed thread

This page needs references, plenty of them. Betances' life is way too interesting to just list a few facts... missing are the references to his medical work in France, his work as an ambassador on behalf of the Dominican Republic in Paris, and his probable link to the assasination of Spanish Prime Minister Antonio Canovas del Castillo. The Legion d'Honour alone deserves expansion. We'll work on this... but it will take a while to clean this up. Demf 04:11, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Demf, I agree with you, there are many things which can be added to the article of this great man and I'm sure that you will do it. The article as it is is still encyclopedic and does not need "clean-up". It is very organized and tells you the basics of Betances contributions. However, the article continues to be open for additional contributions and improvements as are every single article in the Pedia. The most important thing to remember that any addition made to any article, be verifiable on the web and not original research. Keep up your excellent work Demf. Erm, I do think that it needs improvement, and the cleanup will be due once I finish adding material to it. Most of the material I have is based on the various books by Paul Estade and Félix Ojeda Reyes on Betances. I have the fear of not conforming to a NPOV by taking material from a relative small number of sources. However, I do want to attempt to raise the article's status to GA soon... I have little idea on whether this could happen in time for Betances' 180th. anniversary of his birth, but I'll try to edit as much as I can by then... Demf 20:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

GA nomination

I am going to put this page on hold right now for two reasons (see my longer assessment at peer review):

  • "the prose is comprehensible, the grammar is correct, and the structure is clear at first reading" - there are quite a few little grammar mistakes on this page which can be fixed with a thorough copyedit
  • Have the editors had someone copyedit the page yet? I really want to pass this page, but there are so many little grammar mistakes that I simply don't feel comfortable doing so at this point. That is the only thing holding up the GA at this point. Awadewit 03:01, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
That, plus Tax Day in Puerto Rico... Let me have those fixed ASAP. You'll be the first one to know. Demf 14:50, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
  • "Unambiguous citations of reliable sources are necessary for any material that is challenged or likely to be challenged." - there are some "speculation" statements in particular that need to be sourced (I do not expect all of the fact tags I added to be filled) Awadewit 17:42, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I see that editors are busy adding references and fixing up the grammar, etc. Please note that using "Ibid" isn't a good idea because if a different citation is inserted into the text by a later editor who doesn't realize that there is a chain, the "Ibid" will end up referring to the wrong book. Usually, notes just repeat the author or the author and the title. See Mary Wollstonecraft for an example. Awadewit 04:13, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
What's the status here? This article's hold period has expired. IvoShandor 07:34, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
You may then Fail it then... we'll resubmit it once we finish making the corrections. The article is quite big, and only three people have worked on it over the last two weeks. I expected it to be finished by now, but... Wikipedia Time is rather warped... Demf 12:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm terribly sorry, but apparently I have to fail this article since the revisions haven't been made yet. I didn't realize that the timeline was so stringent. Awadewit 15:51, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
It's the large backlog that has required tightening up of the timeline. You can always resubmit it when it's ready I am sure the new reviewer will take the information here into account. IvoShandor 16:24, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, three months have passed, and the Puerto Rican Wiki community has barely said a peep about this article. It still has a B rating. I guess they're too busy finding quotes and fighting copyright paranoia... well, I'll retake this article, and once I resubmit it, I'll close my account. Wikipedia isn't worth the effort anymore.
