Rampage (rapper)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rampage, also known as Rampage the last Boy Scout is an American rapper who is a member of the Flipmode Squad. He was born as Roger McNair in 1974 in Brooklyn, New York City to Catherine Young and Roger Williams. He is a long time collaborator with Busta Rhymes, who has said in the past that they were cousins, however, on an MTV special featuring artist's mothers, Busta's mom said that they were only really close friends who grew up together. During the showing of his videos, she also revealed that Milo of Busta's former group L.O.N.S. was Busta's actual cousin, not Rampage.

In 1992 Rampage landed his first recording deal with Dallas Austin on Rowdy / Arista Records and released Beware of the Ram Sack. In 1994 he recorded Flava in Ya Ear (remix) with Craig Mack, Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes. In 1996 he recorded the Platinum Single "Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check" with Busta Rhymes for the platinum album The Coming.

One year later he landed his second recording deal with Elektra Records and released his Gold solo LP Scouts Honor by Way of Blood. In 1998 he released the Gold LP Flipmode Vol. 1 with the Flipmode Squad, which gave them their first Source Award the next year in 1999. Since then he has recorded with cousin Busta Rhymes on numerous platinum albums and has featured on numerous projects including a remix of the multi-platinum single "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys.

In 2002 Busta Rhymes made considerable impact around the world with the love song 'I Know What You Want', featuring Mariah Carey and the original Flipmode Squad members, including Rampage.

Currently based in Philadelphia, Rampage recently landed an independent record label deal for his company Deep Freeze Entertainment with Sure Shot Records. On that label he has released for promotional use, a single of a new group signed to D.F.E named Total Vision. Lady Day a female rapper is also on the roster. The popular DJ Ghost out of Philly can usually be found mixing beats for his squad.

Although Rampage was not in attendance, during the BET's 2006 Music Awards, Rampage was in a prepared video in the background rapping a verse in sync with Busta Rhymes' performance of his single, Touch It(Remix).

Circa 2005 Rampage finally decided to give a rebirth to his solo career and released an official mixtape called 'Demagraffix' which was designed as a starter to his soon-to-be-released 2nd LP. The LP itself arrived in 2006 with the name 'Have You Seen?' on Sure Shot Records. The 21-track album showed a totally new side of Rampage as an artist. In contrary with his debut LP, which was a dark hard-hitting NY rap release with only a few hints of party vibe, his second joint is a story of a light-hearted successful businessman with lost of cash to spend and girls to have fun with. The album is packed with club-friendly butt-shaking tracks that sound totally Neptune-ish (actually one of them, 'I'm Rollin With You', is indeed a Neptunes work). It's indeed a solo release, with no Flipmode guests except for a short skit by Busta. Even the hit song 'Goin Outta Business' that claims to also feature Busta Rhymes only has Busta's recycled spoken word from Rampage's first LP. With only 3 or 4 tracks of the album that deal with his dark side rather than party side, Rampage's repertoire nowadays doesn't even match his stage name, although one can't deny the appeal of his rough deep baritone and unparalleled bravado. The man still has a lot to do in the rap industry to match his own claimings of having a "catalogue like Tupac Shakur's".

Rampage still is a member of The Flipmode Squad.
