Ramesh Chandra Jain is a scientist and entrepreneur whose decades long career has spanned several universities and startup companies. He is best known for founding the company Virage and working on some of the early visual information retrieval systems. In addition, he was the founder of IEEE Multimedia.

An avid researcher, entrepreneur, and teacher of eminence, Dr. Ramesh Jain founded and directed artificial intelligence and visual information systems labs at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and the University of California, San Diego.
Also Chairman of ACM SIG Multimedia, he was the founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Multimedia magazine and at present serves on the editorial boards of several magazines. He has been elected Fellow of ACM, IEEE, IAPR, AAAI, and SPIE. He has published over 250 research papers in scientific journals and conferences.
Currently, Ramesh is a Bren Professor in Information & Computer Sciences, Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, University of California, Irvine.
His latest research is focussed on "Experiential Computing" - see Comm. of ACM, July, pp. 48-55, 2003.
