Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur is a branch of Ramakrishna Mission. The institute has its services open to all irrespective of caste, creed and nationality, its special field being education. Started in North Calcutta (Pathuriaghata) immediately after the Bengal Famine of 1943 it first served as a Home for the poor and orphan boys. But since its relocation in 1957 to its present site in the southern suburbs of Calcutta, near Garia, 16 Kilometers from the Governor’s House, it has grown into a huge complex with varied activities. It has more than 2,000 resident students and occupies about 150 acres (0.61 km²) of land dotted with flower gardens, green fields, mango groves and lakes.

RKM Narendrapur always puts its best efforts to work for the underprivileged section of the society. It also teaches its students to be better human beings besides being successful in their chosen domains. The alumni provides a strong support to the institute for their causes in various capacities.

The Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission is administered by monks who believe in Ramakrishna - Vivekananda movement. English is the medium of instruction.
The college used to have higher secondary section (affiliated to West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education) in the past, but now this section moved to the Vidyalaya (which used to have the secondary section only). Presently it has two sections: the undergraduate and Masters. The student quality is quite impressive in this college.
Swami Suparnananda, known as Satyada is the principal of the college. The faculty of science include departments of Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics and Computer Science. Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Philosophy, History are among other departments.
The college has been training a lot of brilliant students over the years who go on to become eminent academicians, scientists, administrators and others.

Established in 1958, the Vidyalaya (school) is regarded as one of the best school in the country. Its distinguished alumni includes many established figures in various domains like IT, Health, Banking etc. the greatest strength of the school is its faculty members, revered fondly as dada (elder brother), who help the boys nurture their natural talents along with academic performances. the school, since its inception, maintained an impeccable standard in academics and produced many exceptionally bright students. it also focuses on building strong characters, which help the students developing good personalities in future. It teaches the students to be independent and self-sufficient, receptive, tolerant and respectful in nature.

Besides the residential college and school, the ashrama runs a distinguished Blind Boys Academy, Technical School(s) and an NGO (Lok Siksha Parishad) among its many other entities.
