Ram Niwas Mirdha (b. 24 August 1924) (Hindi:राम निवास मिर्धा) is a politician from Rajasthan state of India. He is a senior leader of Indian National Congress party. He is former speaker of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Ram Niwas Mirdha was cabinet minister in Government of India in 1970s and has held many party positions.

He was born at village Kuchera in Nagaur district of Rajasthan on 24 August 1924. His father's Name is late Shri Baldev Ram Mirdha. His Spouse's name is Smt. Indira Mirdha. He has got two sons and one daughter. His sons are:

  1. Rajendra Mirdha;
  2. Harendra Mirdha, born September 1949, married Ratan Mirdha daughter of Parasram Maderna. Joined politics, he has been Member Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Minister for Public Works Department in Government of Rajasthan (1998-2004). He has one daughter and one son Raghuvendra Mirdha

He is M.A., LL.B. Educated at Allahabad University, Allahabad, Lucknow University, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva (Switzerland). He is Professional Agriculturist.

  • Union Minister of State - Defence Production (October 1974 - December 1975,
  • Union Minister of State - Supply and Rehabilitation (Independent Charge) (December 1975 - March 1977),
  • Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha (1977-1980),
  • Minister of Water Resources Department (January 1983-August 1984),
  • Minister of External Affairs (August 1984-December 1984),
  • Minister of Communication January (1985-October 1986),
  • Minister of Textiles (Cabinet Rank), with additional charge of Health and Family Welfare (October 1986-December 1989),
  • Member tenth Lok Sabha from Barmer, Rajasthan (1991-1996),
  • Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee to inquire into irregularities in Securities and Banking Transactions 1992,

He has been active in matters of cultural from very beginning.

  • He was Chairman Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi for two terms (1976-1980) and (1990-1995),
  • National Institute of Sports, Delhi Urban Arts Commission, Deputy Chairman Special Organizing Committee for IX Asian Games, and President, Youth Hostel Association of India,
  • He also worked as Co-Chairman of the Indo-US Sub-commission on Culture and Education and has been a member of the executive Board of UNESCO and founder President of Indian Heritage Society, an active organization concerned with cultural and environment issues.
  • He is also a trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).
