Ralph did not say "i sleep in a drawer," it was actually said by Kearny's son. Deleted accordingly.

[edit] His first appearance

This has been changed a lot, but officially and even according to the episode's wiki, Moaning Lisa is Ralph's first official appearance in the series. He's very different looking and sounding, he doesn't pick up his updated look and trademark mannerisms until subsequent seasons (I say the third perhaps.) but he's definitely him officially. The casting refer's to him as Ralph here. While perhaps he did appear maybe as a background character before he was never credited as an actual character until Moaning Lisa.

Now...the series is really really long so of course I may be missing out on a few things. I have some of the older episodes but ofcourse I may have missed something. But I'm pretty positive that he didn't appear in the very first episode (Simpsons roasting on an open fire.) Until then, since almost every source including Thats Unpossible states that Moaning was his first appearance, lets just keep it at that.--68.233.141.149 21:55, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Wouldn't that make him an adult though? I distinctively remember the Santa's were all adults. Uhg...I have to find that episode. But even if he does appear there, Moaning Lisa is the first episode where he is actually credited as a character. One thing about first appearances is the character has to be more than just a background character. He has to specifically be "Ralph" in an episode or else he's just background furnature and Moaning Lisa is the first episode where he's credited. Ralph looked really generic at first before becoming the little spud we all know and love, so it wouldn't surprise me if maybe this "santa" was just a character that happened to look like his earlier incarnation. If one wants to get really technical, I'd say Ralph's true first appearance was in the second season. Thats where he got his voice, attitude, and look that made him the Ralph we all know now. I personally think his first appearance was definitely the Christmas episode. That character looks and acts so much like him its ridiculous. However, you have to understand that at that time the character was just a background character. He had no name yet, until Moaning Lisa. Its a technicality yes, but its one the writers themselves back up so until then its Moaning Lisa. Technically some may even point out his first appearance was 5th Amendment becuase thats when the modern Ralph appeared. Okay guys, we all love Ralph's endless verbal wisdom, but maybe his quote section on this page is a bit too long. Especially when considering that there's a separate page dedicated to his quotes specifically. I suggest that we copy and past the list as it is now and put it there (replace it actually...since this list has everything that list has and more), and choose a handful of Ralph's best lines to feature here on his profile. What do you guys think?

I won't do anything yet. If we do choose some of his best we should suggest and talk about it here. "It tastes like burning" and its setup I suggest should be kept on here. Its too classic and ...just plain hilarious not to be featured.--Kiyosuki 19:13, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

should we put in that whenever ralph asks miss hover anything she ignores it or also when thay doing a party for Skinner ralph put his hand up but she chooses Lisa and Ralph says "No Miss. Hover, I'm Ralph."

This article seems to use a lot of informal language and personal opinions. E.g. "rather interesting personality and his hilarious commentary" and "While Bart is at first less than thrilled with this, he genuinely has a good time with Ralph during their time together, eventually learning a thing or two about him in the process." No offense to whoever wrote the info box about Ralph, but his hair really isn't wavy. Anynobody 11:34, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Personally I think its blonde. I think the lines are an artistic use of silhouette and contour line art, in other words the lines just outline his hair shape since his skin is yellow too. Kind of like how Bart and Lisa's hair is a shape. At least I believe that was the intention in the beginning. There's even one issue of the comic where a lot of characters are drawn in an alternate "realistic" style and Ralph is blonde with a bowl cut. Sure right now it might be one off. But i wouldn't say that it truely is yet. Wait till the new season of the Simpsons. They do something about it.
You guys....it was throwaway line. He's 8 years old. I still can't believe some people actually take that line that seriously. By that same logic, there must be a Bovine University out there too literally right? Just think about the character, a dense and odd little 8 year old boy trying to interpret a crazy adult world. Non-sequitors are one of his traits. Seriously...the line means nothing. There are some things to the character worth looking into as the article points out, and this just isn't one of them. Its like looking into his "tastes like Grandma" line as a sign that he's a cannibal. Could Ralph have Asperger syndrome, a form of autism which inhibits social skills?

Great question. Previously there were musings along these lines (later removed - rightfully so, I begrudgingly admit - by Scorpion0422). Surely sources exist, what with the rise in prominence of Asperger's in the collective conscious (e.g., the popularity of Look Me in the Eye), right? Clancy is a heavy guy, and Sarah's pretty beefy herself. Its just design consistency I guess, but a lot of Springfield isn't in great shape, although the Wiggums seem to be just a naturally husky family too. I don't think its necessary to draw attention to his figure really, its not a defining characteristic.--76.166.144.112 20:07, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Everyone keep an eye on the page and watch for people who add "Ralph Wiggum in 08" or crap like that. Maybe a couple sentences about the episode, but for now revert any propaganda or large sections. Yeah, I was keeping an eye out for it last night and was surprised when I didn't see anything. Still, it undoubtedly will come eventually. I also watch Dennis Kucinich, and was just as surprised that no mention was made of the scene in Moe's from last night's episode. By the way, that was the worst episode I've seen...maybe ever. At least the worst of the past three or four years, I'd say. Disappointing that an episode about one of my favorite characters was so poorly executed.
