W. Ralph "Pest" Welch is a former head coach of the Washington college football program from 1942-1947. At Washington, he took the 1994 squad to the Rose Bowl, where they lost to USC 29-0. He played college football at Purdue, as a halfback, under head coach Jim Phelan.
