[edit] History

RUET, the second oldest university for engineering and technological education in Bangladesh, was founded in 1964 as a faculty of Engineering under the University of Rajshahi with three major departments Civil Engineerring(CE), Electrical and Electronic Engineering(EEE)and Mechanical engineering(ME). Later in 1986, it was reformed to an independent institution "Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Rajshahi" to serve as a Center of Excellence for Engineering and Technology in the North-West region of the country. Another new department named Computer Science & Engineering(CSE) also started in 1998. In 2002,the name of the institution became Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET).
