Ranjanka (Great King) Bhumi Chand was the originator of the Katoch Dynasty. He was the first Great King of the Chandra Vanshi group (sub-group Katoch) of Kshatriyas. His reference is also available in the Puran, the holy book of Hindus, named as "Brahmand Puran". According to this holy book, with the blessing of Goddess Parvati, he was born in the month of April/May, the date in which Asthami falls. He was born in Chandra Vanshi group of Kshatriyas.
Goddess Parvati created her for finishing of cruel Rakshash (devils), which he did accordingly. Goddess Parvati gifted him the territory of Trigarta, the territory in or around the three rivers Satluj, Beas and Ravi. At present, his descendents are divided in sub groups:
- Katoch Clan
- Katoch(Jaswal Clan)
- Katoch(Guleria Clan)
- Katoch(Sibaia Clan)
- Katoch (Dadwal Clan)
