[edit] Raj Bhavan, Srinagar (Summer Capital City)

The Raj Bhavan is a small two-story building mostly made of wood; it has lush green lawns having different varieties of roses and other beautiful flowers.

The President of India and the Prime Minister of India usually stay in the Raj Bhavan on their visits to Kashmir.

Lt. Gen. SK Sinha, the Governor General of Indian Admin Kashmir is highly unpopular amongst the ethnic Kashmiri population of the state because of his pronounced pro-Hindu leanings and favoritism towards the Jammu province. He has recently demanded large tracts of hilly/forrest land for the Amarnath Shrine Board, which organises a 2-month annual pilgrimage for devout Hindus from all over India. The pilgrimage was extended to 2-months from just one on his insistence 3 years ago (2004 AD) as he is also heading the Shrine board;though locals resented its extension because the pilgrimage/yatra causes inconvenience to the resident population and also drives away tourists from the Kashmir Valley during peak season.

Lt. Gen. Sinha has also interfered often with the working of Kashmir University-Hazratbal, in his capacity as Chancellor of the Varsity. It was a well known fact that most "cultural programs" held in KU were directed by Raj Bhawan from behind curtains, mostly by his Special Secy.Arun Kumar, like Kashmiriyat, "Peace", and other dance programs!!
