The process of raising nap in a cloth is not carding. Carding is the preparation of fiber for spinning. I do not know if this tool can double and do both capacities, but my guess is that carders were/are used for carding, and another, more specialized tool is used for raising the nap. I have never heard about this tool before, so I do not know what it is used for, and have never seen it in a weaving magazine, so I don't know what it is or does. Loggie 19:40, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
