Rais Karim Bux Nizamani or Rais Karim Bux Khan Nizamani Baloch as he preferred to be called was a prominent personality of his time in Sindh and Pakistan. Rais born in Matli, a famous city of Nizamani tribe.
Rais belonged to a landlord family with all possible wordily comforts in his time and location. Rais spent his childhood in Matli and surroundings. He completed his early education in his city Matli at a Moulvi Sahib’s Maddrasa. Like his other peers Rais also couldn’t concentrate and continue his formal education, notwithstanding he joined a famous school of his time in Karachi, Sindh-maddrasatull-Islam. Rais learnt from nature, people and folk wisdom. He was not only patron of musicians but he himself had a great knack of music and dance. Though he was a wealthy and well-to-do man he was used to sing and dance in private parties of friends and family members. He wanted to be an actor so he learnt riding; swimming, dancing and singing to be an actor. Rais had a great talent of acting; so he went Bombay or Mumbai to get acts in movies. He not only participated in movies being an actor but he also, produced movies in pre-partition Indian.
Rais did not let any moment of his life go in vain. Rais was a man of parties and get-togethers. He was a great fan of ‘Sughars’ or story taller of Sindh, Mallhs or indigenous wrestlers and folk singers. His two volumes autobiography ‘kaee kitaab’ or ‘many books’ is not only a book of an autobiography but a history of his times and paints picture of society in his time. This book is ranked one of the great books of Sindhi literature.
In his autobiography Rais has not tried to hide any aspect of his life. He has given detailed accounts of his parties in which Rais was used to enjoy liquor and beautiful voices of beautiful faces. His beautiful coined terms for low cast Sindhi musician peoples are his prove of love and respect for these people.
He was not only the man of parties and merrymaker but he had also fans and friends in that time intelligentsia. Great poets, philosophers and men of literature of that period were his friends.
