[edit] History

Rain Fell Within was formed in October, 1996 by vocalist Dawn Desiree, guitarist Kevin Thomas, bassist Charles Gore, guitarist William Rucker and percussionist John Brown under the name In Medias Res. Their original sound was a mixture of heavy metal and new age with symphonic elements. After refining their sound they released a four-track demo called Rain Fell Within-Live '97. In March 1998, after changing their name to Rain Fell Within, they released a demo called Solemn Days. With the release of their demo, the band started gaining worldwide attention and began performing in local venues.

In November 1998, William and John would quit Rain Fell Within over disagreements with the direction the band was heading. With new drummer Tim Miller joining in December, Rain Fell Within's sound further evolved. In early 1999, the band was invited to open for the Gathering on their first US tour. Jason Ian-Vaughn Eckert played rhythm guitar live during this tour.

Later this year, guitarist Owen Davis joined Rain Fell Within and they signed a record contract with Dark Symphonies Records. In 2000 Rain Fell Within with Dark Symphonies released a six-track EP called Believe that was recorded prior to Owen joining the band. This brought new success to band including performing on the main venu for the Milwaukee Metal Fest, New Jersey Metal Fest and New England Metal Fest along with many international acts and opened for Lacuna Coil and Moonspell on their first US tour in 2001. They were featured and interviewed in numerous magazine and e-zines including Metal Maniacs. Their music was played on metal radio shows around the globe including K-Rock 92.3FM in New York.

2001 continued success for the band including a distribution deal with Barnes and Nobel and continuing large venus. Having a new line-up, Rain Fell Within began writing a new album as their sound had evolved again. During this process Owen left the band and they had to complete the process as the same quartet on Believe. They brought Jason Ian-Vaughn Eckert back into the live performances along with Jen from Autumn Tears as a backing vocalist.

In late 2001, guitarist Jason Wood and backing vocalist Laurie Ann Haus joined Rain Fell Within. With the new members they went into the studio to record a new album. The members on Believe recorded songs they'd written with and after Owen, as well as recorded one song with Jason Wood and featured a solo piece by Laurie. In 2002, Dark Symphonies released the LP Refuge featuring nearly an hour of Rain Fell Within's new songs.

2002 brought more growth for the band as they included keyboardist John Battema. They toured the songs from Refuge as vocalist Dawn Desiree, backing vocalist Laurie Ann Haus, guitarist Kevin Thomas, guitarist Jason Wood, bassist Charles Gore, percussionist Tim Miller and keyboardist John Battema. This tour included some of their previous venues, reuniting them with some of the large acts that they'd performed with in the past. The Refuge preformances were well received and Rain Fell Within's popularity grew.

Having a larger line-up with three new members, Rain Fell Within began to drastically expanding their sound and write new songs. Though these new songs were only heard by close company to the band, they were well received and recorded on private demos. These songs have never been publically available and are the last and lost songs by Rain Fell Within.

In late 2002, core members Dawn, Kevin, Charles, and Tim could not lay conflicts to rest and Rain Fell Within disbanded. The majority of the members went on to form the progressive metal band Ephemeral Sun. Dawn Desiree has had a successful solo career as well as making guest appearances on several recordings. Laurie Ann Haus, Jason Aaron Wood and Jason Ian-Vaughn Eckert went on to form Todesbonden. In 2007 Kevin Thomas released the first EP from Anomalous Feather which features Laurie Ann Haus.
