The railjet is a new ÖBB train, which is scheduled to be introduced at the timetable change of 2008/9.

The first route Budapest – Vienna – Munich should be operational from December 2008, with the second route Vienna – Salzburg – Bregenz ( – Zurich) following in December 2009. On completion of the current track improvement works, it is hoped to achieve journey times of 2 hours 15 minutes between Salzburg and Vienna.
Long-term plans:
- 2009 Budapest - Vienna - Munich
- 2010 Vienna - Bregenz ( – Zurich)
- 2010-12 Vienna - Graz - Maribor - Ljubljana ( – Zagreb)
- 2010-12 Vienna - Villach - Venice/Lienz
- 2013 Improved frequency for the Vienna - Innsbruck - Bregenz ( – Zurich) line
