- Standard gauge 150 km of 1,435 mm (4 ft 8½ in) gauge (connects Cerrejón coal mines to maritime port at Bahia de Portete)
- Narrow gauge 3,230 km of 3 ft (914 mm) gauge (1,830 km in use) (1995)
State railway liquidated.
US$600m investment programme planned for 2008. Studies for a US$90m new line between Puerto Berrío and Saboya.[1]
